Arrest on auto theft, burglary charges for Columbia man

A man’s arrest in connection with a stolen car investigation in Columbia led to charges in several alleged crimes, police said.

Police investigating a stolen vehicle on Nov. 22 found it parked in front of a Columbia residence, according to Howard County Police, who said officers saw a man walking in in dark clothing, mask and gloves. When police approached him, authorities said, he tried to drive away in the vehicle but was caught.

Police later determined that a nearby residence had been burglarized. After police obtained a search warrant at his residence, authorities said, they found evidence linking him to other county burglaries in July and August.

Robert Stone, 43, has been charged with first-, third- and fourth-degree burglary, destruction of property, auto theft and resisting arrest, according to police.
