Body found under 11th Street Bridge

District police on Wednesday retrieved the body of an adult male spotted floating in the Anacostia River under the 11th Street Bridge, according to a department spokesman.

A bystander saw the body about 1:20 p.m. and called U.S. Park Police, who notified District authorities, said Officer Araz Alali.

Alali said it appeared that the body had been in the water for a long time, though how long was not immediately clear. A cause of death will be determined after an autopsy by the medical examiner.

The body was found close to the shore on the southeast side of the river, near Good Hope Road meets the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail.
