Bowie man struck by car, killed on Route 301

A 39-year-old man was struck by a car and killed early Friday as he was walking in the middle of a normally busy thoroughfare in the Bowie area, authorities said.

Maryland State Police said Zuberi L. Brown of Bowie was walking in the roadway on Route 301, just north of Pointer Ridge Drive, when he was struck by a Toyota Camry headed south. Brown was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the Camry, a 25-year-old Bowie man, was not under the influence of alcohol and did not appear to be fatigued, police said. They said he told investigators that Brown was walking north — against the flow of traffic.

The incident occurred just before 1 a.m., police said.
