Boy, 4, dies in Baltimore after shooting

Police in Baltimore say a 4-year-old boy has died after being found shot in the face in what appeared to be a self-inflicted shooting.

Police spokesman Jeremy Silbert says authorities were called to the scene a little before 10:30 a.m. Sunday in northwest Baltimore.

The boy, who was identified as Tyeshawn Townsend, was taken to Sinai Hospital and later John Hopkins Hospital, where he died. Police were investigating.

Silbert says the gun used in the incident was recovered, but it wasn’t known if it was registered or involved in other crimes.

Silbert says the shooting is a reminder for people to take precautions when a gun is in the home, such as using safety locks and keeping them out children’s reach.
