Boy killed, mother injured when car hits them in Loudoun

An 8-year-old Ashburn boy died and his mother was injured when they were struck by a car while crossing a road in Ashburn Monday night, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.

The pair were attempting to cross Farmwell Road at Ashburn Village Boulevard around 9:15 p.m. when they were struck by a vehicle traveling westbound through the unlit intersection, the sheriff’s office said.

Officials said 8-year-old Beshoy B.E. Shokr was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead. His mother, Eman S. Thabet, 29, was taken by helicopter to INOVA Fairfax Hospital where she was in stable condition Tuesday.

The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and cooperated with police, authorities said . They said a witness reported that the driver had a green light, and said neither alcohol nor speed is believed to be a factor in the crash.
