Two burglars broke into a couple’s McLean home Wednesday morning and then demanded money and struck a woman in her 70s, Fairfax County police said.

The couple were awakened around 7:50 a.m. after hearing noises in the lower level of their house in the 1500 block of Pathfinder Lane, police said.

The woman went downstairs to investigate and encountered the burglars, who attacked her, police said. The burglars roused the man, who was still in bed. After one of the victims screamed, the burglars fled with a purse, police said.

The woman did not require treatment for her injuries, police said.

Detectives don’t believe the couple knew the suspects, but are continuing to investigate the incident. Police said there have been no other burglaries of this type in the area.

One of the suspects is described as a male around six-feet tall. The other suspect is described as a petite female. Both wore dark clothing.
