Bus stop stabbing victim dies

A person stabbed Thursday night at a bus stop in Northeast Washington has died, D.C. police said Friday.

Police identified the victim as JaParker Jones, 23.

Jones was transgender, authorities said. Police Lt. Robert Alder, of the homicide unit, said detectives have not yet determined a motive for the killing, including whether it was a hate crime.

On Thursday evening, a Metro transit police officer was flagged down by a group of people, and the officer found the victim at a bus shelter, a Metro spokesman said. Officers were called to the scene in the 4900 block of East Capitol Street about 8:15 p.m., said Officer Paul Metcalf, a spokesman.

Jones was found unconscious at the scene and died at a local hospital, police said.
