RICHMOND, Va. — A man charged with killing his pregnant girlfriend has been indicted on a capital murder charge.
The charge issued by a grand jury Wednesday means Gregory L. Nelson Jr. could face a possible death penalty if convicted.
Henrico Commonwealth’s Attorney Wade Kizer had sought the charge. Media outlets reports the charge overrides earlier charges of murder and fetal homicide.
Nelson, who lived with his wife in Chesterfield County, allegedly stabbed 24-year-old Susana Cisneros to death after she told her family that Nelson was the father of her unborn child.
Police arrested Nelson in Florida several days after the March 9 death of Cisneros, who was nine months pregnant when she died.
Trial is scheduled for October.
