Car crashes into Fort Washington gym

A car crashed through the front window of World Gym in Fort Washington Thursday morning, significantly damaging the building, authorities said.

No one was seriously hurt in the crash, which occurred just after 10 a.m. in the 12700 block of Old Fort Road, police and fire officials said. The driver of the car, a female teen, was evaluated by paramedics on the scene and released, police and fire officials said.

Mark Brady, a Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department spokesman, said the building is “not in any danger of collapse.”A person who answered the phone at the gym said the facility was temporarily closed.

Cpl. Evan Baxter, a Prince George’s County police spokesman, said it remains unclear why the driver crashed into the building.
