Centreville man killed after fiery garage-door crash

A Virginia man has died after crashing his vehicle into a garage door and setting his car ablaze, Anne Arundel police said Monday.

According to police, 25-year-old Dana Simonsen of Centreville pulled his SUV into the driveway of a home in the 1200 block of Fort Hill Court in Annapolis about 4:30 a.m. Sunday.

Simonsen lost control of the SUV, police said, hitting the garage door and driving through it into the garage.

Police said Simonsen lost consciousness while his foot remained on the gas pedal. One of the SUV’s rear wheels continued to spin, sparking a fire that spread to the inside of the car.

Simonsen was flown to the regional burn center of John Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, where he died from his injuries Monday.
