A 2-year-old boy died Friday in Northern Virginia after possibly being left inside the family’s minivan for hours, authorities said.

The child was found unresponsieve in the vehicle by his mother about 4 p.m., said First Sgt Kim Chinn of the Prince William County police.

The vehicle was in a driveway at the family home on Gentle Shade Drive in the Bristow area of the county, Chinn said.

She said the child was reportedly last seen alive around 9 a.m. Friday.

Additional details were not immediately available

The matter is under investigation, Chinn said.
