Child seriously hurt at Lincoln Memorial

A child was struck by a car and seriously injured Monday night at the Lincoln Memorial, authorities said.

The child was struck about 8 p.m. on the circle surrounding the monument, according to Pete Piringer, a spokesman for the D.C. fire and emergency medical services department.

Part but not all of the circle is generally closed to traffic.

The child was flown to a hospital by U.S. Park Police helicopter, Piringer said.
