Clerk shot in Laurel robbery try

A service station clerk in Laurel was shot Saturday night as he tried to fend off a robbery attempt, authorities said.

The clerk suffered a wound in the upper arm that was not believed to be life-threatening, Laurel police spokeswoman Carreen Koubek said.

She said the clerk was shot about 8:30 p.m. as he tried to throw a chair in a struggle with a man who entered the station and demanded money.

The incident occurred at an Exxon station on Old Sandy Spring Road, she said. It was not clear if any money was taken.
