Prince William County police believe that a “botched drug deal” led a man to arrange for a woman’s slaying in Dumfries, according to documents filed in Prince William County Circuit Court.

Tasheka Lashon Leavell, 35, was found fatally shot in the 17600 block of Washington Street in Dumfries on Jan. 17. Police subsequently arrested brothers Christopher J. Tolliver, 27, of the 1700 block of Washington Street in Dumfries, and Douglas J. Tolliver of the 4000 block of Jonathan Court in Dumfries.

Leavell had allegedly arranged to use Christopher Tolliver’s cellphone to buy marijuana, according to court documents. Instead, police believe Tolliver was robbed and beaten, the documents say.

The extent of Leavell’s participation in the robbery and beating is unclear. Regardless, police believe Leavell was killed for it. “It is believed the victim was killed in retaliation for the robbery,” according to a search warrant affidavit.

Christopher Tolliver and Douglas Tolliver were tracked and arrested, police say, by U.S. Marshals and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office to North Palm Beach, Fla.

Both men and a third brother, Reginald K. Tolliver, 38, have been charged with first-degree murder in Leavell’s death.

They are being held without bond. A court date has not been scheduled.
