D.C. man arrested in Wheeler Road slaying

Prince George’s County police have arrested a D.C. man in connection with a fatal shooting in Oxon Hill earlier this month, authorities said.

Benjamin Vance, 34, was arrested early Friday morning and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the May 11 shooting of 28-year-old James William Speaks, authorities said. Speaks was shot to death just after 7 p.m. in the 4400 block of Wheeler Road, authorities said.

Cpl. Henry Tippett, a Prince George’s County police spokesman, said he did not know specifically what the motive for the slaying was or what evidence detectives had to suggest Vance was involved in the slaying.
