D.C. police investigating death of infant

District police are investigating the death of a 5-month-old infant boy from Southeast Washington who was rushed to a local hospital on Tuesday, according to authorities.

The cause of death has not yet been determined and police would not say whether the infant had suffered any obvious signs of trauma. Homicide detectives are handling the case, as is routine for unexpected deaths.

Police identified the infant as Jakari Isiah Williams.

Officer Araz Alali, a D.C. police spokesman, said officers responded to a house in the 2100 block of Mississippi Ave., SE, near the Maryland line, about 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday.

He said the infant’s mother had called, crying, that her son had died at a hospital. Alali said someone in the house had called for an ambulance and that medic crews found the child unconscious.
