Man held on charge he sexually assaulted woman at gunpoint

A 52-year-old man has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman after giving her a ride over the weekend in Southeast Washington, D.C. police said Tuesday.

Geary McCall, of Southwest, was charged with first-degree sexual assault while armed.

Police said that about 6 p.m. Saturday, McCall, driving a blue four-door sedan, offered a ride to a woman who was walking in the 5600 block of Southern Avenue SE. The woman accepted, D.C. police said.

Inside the car, police said the suspect threatened the woman with a handgun and sexually assault her. Police said she was able to escape and call 911.

Police said the located McCall in the 4700 block of I Street SW.

At a hearing in D.C. Superior Court on Monday, a judge ordered McCall detained until a preliminary hearing scheduled for Friday.
