Death of Howard Co. quadriplegic man ruled a homicide

The death of a quadriplegic man has been ruled a homicide more than eight months after he was found dead in his Ellicott City home, Howard County police said.

Police responded to the home of Kevin Patrick Molony, 51, in the 4000 block of Chariots Flight Way, for a medical emergency about 6 a.m. Feb. 27.

Molony was pronounced dead on the scene at 6:27 a.m.

There were no signs of trauma, police said, and an initial medical examination didn’t reveal the cause of death.

But a final report from the medical examiner’s office this week showed that Molony died from overdosing on oxycodone, a prescription painkiller.

Detectives believe the overdose was administered to Molony, whose arms and legs became paralyzed after a 2007 car accident.

Molony was living at home and being cared for by family members and nurses, police said.

Police said they are investigating who could have administered the medication.
