Delay in murder trial for former Va. deputy Jonathan Agee

ROANOKE, Va. — A former Franklin County deputy sheriff’s first-degree murder trial has been delayed until early 2013.

The Roanoke Times reports that prosecutors and defense attorneys in Jonathan Agee’s case filed a joint motion for a continuance Monday in Roanoke Circuit Court. The trial had been scheduled to start June 18 but is being delayed until Jan. 21 to give Agee’s attorneys time to review discovery material.

Agee is charged in the Memorial Day 2011 slaying of his ex-wife. He allegedly shot Jennifer Agee in a convenience store parking lot in front of one of their two young daughters, then fled in his patrol car.

Agee is also charged in Montgomery County, Va., with shooting a Virginia State Police sergeant in the leg on Interstate 81 later that day.
