Ex-firefighter arrested for setting fire to home in Prince George’s County

A former volunteer firefighter has been charged with arson in a 2008 house fire that left a fellow firefighter injured, Prince George’s County fire officials said.

Gerard McBurnie Dixon Jr., 23, of Bladensburg, was arrested Wednesday and faces 30 years in prison or or a maximum fine of $50,000, or both.

The fire broke began early the morning of June 29, 2008 at a home in the 4500 block of Kennedy Street in Riverdale.

Firefighters from Riverdale and other nearby stations responded to the intense blaze about 3:25 a.m. One firefighter sustained minor burn injuries while battling the fire.

Officials said that Dixon, and possibly others, maliciously set fire to the house.

The fire remains under investigation. Officials said other arrests in connection with the incident are still possible.
