Fairfax man killed trying to cross street near home

A man was struck by a vehicle and killed Saturday evening while crossing a street in the Fairfax Station area.

Michael J. Henley, 22, was attempting to cross Silverbrook Road shortly before 6 p.m. when he was struck by an eastbound GMC sports utility vehicle that was approaching the intersection with Crosspointe Drive, Fairfax County police said.

Henley, of the nearby 8300 block of Ivy Green Road, was thrown into the westbound lane, where he was then hit by a Chrysler minivan.

He was taken to a local hospital and later died of his injuries, police said; drivers of both vehicles remained on the scene.

Police said neither speed nor alcohol are thought to be factors in the collision. Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call county police at 703-691-2131.
