Fairfax officer faces DWI charge after off-duty crash

A Fairfax County police officer is facing a driving while intoxicated charge after crashing his own car early Monday morning while he was off-duty, police said.

Officer Sean McGlone, 41, struck a utility pole on Zion Drive near the intersection of Groveswood Way in Braddock, Fairfax County police said. McGlone was the sole occupant of the car and was not injured in the crash, which occurred around 3 a.m., police said.

McGlone placed a call to police about the crash and he was arrested, police said. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

McGlone has been placed on leave pending an internal investigation. The officer, who has been on the force since 1995, works out of the Reston police station.
