Fairfax pedestrian dies from injuries sustained in crash

A 66-year-old man has died from injuries he sustained after being struck by a car while crossing a Fairfax street last week, police said Friday.

Juan Pablo Hernandez Rodriguez, of the 3300 block of Willow Crescent Drive in Fairfax, was crossing Eaton Place on Dec. 23 when he was hit by a Honda Civic making a left turn from the Chain Bridge Road service road, Fairfax police said. Rodriguez was in the crosswalk and crossing with a “walk” signal, police said.

The driver of the Honda, Kyung Boo You, 44, of Fairfax, was charged with failure to yield the right of way to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, police said. Neither speed or alcohol was a factor, according to police.

Rodriguez was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital after the crash and was subsequently released, police said. He later returned to the hospital, where he died on Wednesday.

The medical examiner ruled Rodriguez died of internal injuries sustained in the crash, police said.
