Fatal Prince William County I-95 crash not related to wet weather, police say

Virginia State Police released more information Wednesday about a fatal early morning crash Tuesday that killed a driver on I-95 near Dale City in Prince William County.

The three-car crash around 7:45 a.m. killed Kevin L. Mullins, 36, of Stafford, who was driving a Ford Econoline van and failed to brake when a line of cars had stopped because of congestion in a northbound lane, police said. Despite rain much of the day Tuesday, the crash was not related to the weather, said Corinne Geller, a state police department spokeswoman.

Mullins struck a Dodge Ram, the force of which caused it to hit a Kia Spectra in front of it. One driver was transported to Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, Geller said.
