One person was injured, possibly in a stabbing, outside a Silver Spring High School Tuesday night. Montgomery County police said the incident followed a dispute among several people who had left a basketball game early.

After the incident outside Northwood High school, the female victim, whose age was believed late Tuesday to be 15 to 20, was taken to a hospital with wounds that were not considered life-threatening.

In a preliminary account, police said the dispute apparently broke out in a parking lot among people connected with Kennedy High School.

However, Eric Minus, Kennedy’s principal, said he was told that the altercation involved students from Kennedy and Montgomery Blair high schools. He said the fight was not connected to the boys’ basketball game between Northwood and Kennedy.

“The victim was a Montgomery Blair high school student,” Minus said in an email. He added that the altercation took place off the Northwood campus, but that the injured student returned to the campus to get help.

Capt. Paul Starks, a county police spokesman, said late Tuesdsay night that the matter was under investigation.
