After Prince George’s County firefighters put out the flames at a check-cashing store in Bladensburg on Friday night, they discovered a body.
County homicide detectives are investigating the death of Richard Changsun Nam, 69, who was found in a burned building in the 5400 block of Annapolis Road in Bladensburg. Firefighters responded to a report of a fire there around 10:35 p.m., and after extinguishing the flames and making the discovery summoned police to the scene.
Nam, who police say owned the store, lived in the 10800 block of Lake Arbor Way in Mitchellville, Md.
A law enforcement source said it appeared the fire was set to cover up evidence of the killing, which may have started as a robbery. Nam had injuries that obviously were not from the fire, and the medical examiner was working to determine the exact nature of those injuries, the source said.
