A 5-year-old girl was abducted from her Springfield house while she was sleeping early Saturday morning and assaulted outside the home before she returned, police said.
Police were called to a townhouse in the 7000 block of Brocton Court shortly after 4 a.m.
Detectives determined that an unknown man broke into the house sometime after midnight, went upstairs and took the girl from her bed. The victim’s parents and 1-year-old sibling were in the home at the time of the abduction, according to Fairfax County police spokesman Officer Don Gotthardt.
The girl was taken to a nearby location and assaulted, police said. She found her way back to her home after the assault and told her parents what happened, Gotthardt said.
She was then taken to an area hospital for injuries to her upper body, Gotthardt said. It is unclear at this point if she was sexually assaulted, he said.Police said they do not know whether the attack was random at this point.
“We haven’t connected this to anything at this point, we’ve seen nothing else similar in this area,” Gotthardt said. “The frustrating this is there is no further description of the suspect at this time.”
Police are asking for any information about possible suspicious activity in the area early Saturday morning.
The neighborhood is tucked behind the Brookfield Plaza shopping center, and police are investigating whether surveillance videos yield any leads to the suspect’s identity.
Anyone with information is asked to call Fairfax County 703-691-2131.
