Four juveniles charged with arson in Rockville playground fire

Four juveniles have been charged with arson for burning wooden playground equipment at the Rockville Civic Center causing an estimated $160,000 in damages and destroying the playground, fire officials said.

The four were arrested Nov. 21 on the night of the fire, said Montgomery County Assistant Fire Chief Scott Graham, but an announcement of the arrests was held off until Thursday pending work on related investigations.

Because they are juveniles, the identities and ages of the four were withheld, as was information about any motive and the means the juveniles used to set the fire, Graham said.

The playground was in the 600 block of Edmonston Drive where the fire was discovered at about 8 p.m. Nov. 21, Graham said.
