Four to hospital after D.C. battery explosion

UPDATE 9:15 am: Four people have been taken to area hospitals for evaluation. The building is a former Washington Times warehouse, now being used by DC department of public works.

ORIGINAL POST: A truck battery exploded in a warehouse on New York Avenue, exposing about two dozen people to possibly hazardous chemicals.

Twenty-five people were evacuated from the building and three of them are being transported to area hospitals in serious condition, according to D.C. fire officials.

The explosion was at 2800 New York Avenue Northeast at about 8:15 a.m. Traffic was delayed on New York Ave. near Bladensburg Rd. because of rubbernecking, authorities said.
