A memorial fund has been set up for 15-year-old Isaiah Harris, the middle school student who was shot and killed on Memorial Day.

Harris is the District’s youngest homicide victim this year. He excelled as an eighth-grade student at Shaw at Garnet-Patteron Middle School and would have graduated this week.

He was killed May 30 as he walked with his best friend along the 1400 block of New Jersey Avenue NW on May 30. Close to 100 friends, family and city officials attended a candlelight vigil for Harris last Thursday.

A funeral service will be held for Harris on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Mount Sinai Baptist Church at 1615 3rd NW.

Contributions to the Isaiah Harris Memorial Fund, established by Harris’s Big Brothers mentor Jonathan Rothwell, are being accepted through PNC Bank. It will raise money for funeral related expenses, Rothwell said, and any money left over will be given to Harris’s mother, Geneva Harris.

Contributions can be sent by check, made out to the fund’s name, by mail to:
