Girl, 8, reports attempted abduction in Spotsylvania

An 8-year-old girl reported that a man tried to get her into a car this weekend, continuing the rash of reported attempted abductions in Spotsylvania County, authorities said.

According to an alert issued by the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s County, the girl said that she was approached by a Hispanic man at approximately 4:20 p.m. Saturday afternoon in Satterfield Court in Fredericksburg.

The man allegedly attempted to get the girl to get inside his vehicle, described as a black Econoline van with the word “MALLORY” written on the side with red lettering.

Authorities said the girl fled the scene on foot.

The incident occurred within five miles of three earlier abduction attempts, according to the Fredericksburg Free Lance-Star.

The previous attempts took place in Ashleigh Park, Salem Fields and Governor’s Green.

All of the incidents involved girls and women between the ages of 8 and 20.

There was also a reported abduction attempt in Stafford County last week. Investigators have not said if and how the attempted abductions are related.

Anyone with information about the attempted abductions is asked to call the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office (540) 582-7115 or Crime Solvers at (540) 582-5822.
