Girl abducted from playground, sexually assaulted

Police are seeking suspects in two Fairfax County sex assaults, including one in which a 5-year-old girl was taken from a playground and molested nearby.

The girl was grabbed from a playground near Lachine Lane and Manitoba Drive in the Lincolnia area between 7 and 8 p.m. on Sunday, Fairfax County police said.

The man took the girl to the basement of a building in the 4900 block of Manitoba Drive and assaulted her, police said. The suspect was described as Hispanic, of medium height and average to heavy build. He was wearing a white, long-sleeve, button-down shirt and dark pants.

The second, unrelated sexual assault took place about 11 p.m. Sunday in the 7600 block of Lee Highway in Merrifield, police said.

A woman was walking along Lee Highway when a man armed with a knife approached her and forced her into some brush, where he sexually assaulted her, police said.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic man in his 30s, of short stature and wearing a black T-shirt and jeans.
