ANNAPOLIS, Md. — A driver who struck and killed a stranded motorist has pleaded guilty to driving under the influence.

Thirty-year-old Jose Jesus Garcia-Salmoran of Annapolis entered the plea Tuesday in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court. He faces up to a year in jail at sentencing Jan. 7.

The July 2011 crash killed 20-year-old Jasmine Owens of Upper Marlboro. According to a statement of facts, Owens’ car had hit a guardrail on Route 50 and was left disabled in the right lane.

The Capital of Annapolis reports that Owens got out of her car to inspect the damage and was hit by a truck driven by Garcia-Salmoran. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Garcia-Salmoran was found to have a 0.13 blood alcohol content.
