Knife-wielding man, shot by police, dies

A D.C. man has died after being shot by police during a confrontation in Southeast Washington, police said Saturday.

Albert Jermaine Payton, 24, of Southeast, died at a hospital after being shot shortly before 6 p.m. Friday in the 4200 block of 4th Street SE, police said.

Police said that Payton had been brandishing a knife, and when he did not drop it as officers ordered him to do, they shot him.

The Internal Affairs Division is investigating the incident, police said.
