Long sentence for Va. man in robbery, sex assault

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A Virginia Beach man has been sentenced to up to 110 years in prison for the robbery and sexual assault of two sisters who had been walking home after school.

Media outlets report 19-year-old Malcolm Omarr Richards Jr. was sentenced Wednesday in Virginia Beach Circuit Court. He was found guilty earlier of two counts each of abduction and robbery, three counts of forcible sodomy and seven counts of use of a firearm.

The victims testified Richards had a gun and sexually assaulted them in an alley in May 2009.

Prosecutors say DNA linked Richards to the crimes.

Richards testified the sex acts were consensual in exchange for marijuana offered to the girls.

He already was serving a four-year sentence for an unrelated armed robbery.
