D.C. police said a maintenance man was arrested Wednesday and accused of sexually assaulting a young girl inside her Northwest Washington apartment building earlier in the day, officials said.

Authorities arrested Ronald Tibbs, 50, of Northeast Washington and charged him with burglary and second degree sexual assault, police said in a statement. Officers were called to the 1400 block of Spring Road for the report of a sexual assault about 11:30 a.m. and interviewed a girl who told them a man sexually assaulted her, police said.

The victim is an 8-year-old girl and police said they believe Tibbs entered her apartment without permission.
