Man arrested in Seat Pleasant killing

Police have arrested an Upper Marlboro man in a fatal shooting Saturday outside a Seat Pleasant gas station, authorities said Wednesday.

Lawson Mahdi, 24, is charged with second-degree murder in the slaying of Sharod Darnell James, 31, who was found fatally shot very early Saturday outside the Lowest Price gas station in the 5600 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Highway. Police have given multiple spellings of James’s name, first identifying him as James Sharod, then James Sharod Darnell.

Cpl. Larry Johnson, a Prince George’s County police spokesman, said he did not know what evidence investigators had to connect Mahdi to the slaying or what precipitated it.
