A Hyattsville man with a history of sex offenses was convicted of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl as she walked to her family’s Suitland apartment in 2005, authorities said.

Kevin Lewis Deleon, 32, was convicted Thursday of first-degree sex offense in connection with the incident, which occurred in the Silver Hill Apartments in June 2005.

Prosecutors said the 14-year-old was walking with two younger siblings from a family gathering back to their own apartment in the complex when she fell and Deleon picked her up off the ground.

Deleon then held a gun to the girl’s head and sexaully assaulted her, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors said investigators were able to match DNA from the girl’s hand to Deleon, who had pleaded guilty in 2003 to sex offense and stalking and was a registered sex offender at the time of the 2005 crime.

Deleon faces the possibility of life in prison at his Jan. 25 sentencing, prosecutors said.
