Man critically wounded in Northeast

A man was shot and critically wounded Saturday evening in Northeast Washington, police said.

Officers were called to the 1100 block of 21st Street about 6:30 p.m. in response to the sound of shots, officials said. Police found the victim, who was taken to a hospital with life-threatening wounds.

Homicide detectives were called to investigate, but police did not immediately know what prompted the shooting.
