Man crossing Richmond Highway was fatally struck

A 39-year-old man was fatally struck by a car as he crossed the southbound lanes of Richmond Highway in Fairfax County Thursday morning, police said.

Ralph Holland, of Alexandria, was walking across Richmond Highway near the intersection of Sacramento Drive around 10:30 a.m. when he was struck by a 2000 Toyota Camry headed south, police said.

Holland was not in a crosswalk, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Toyota, a 20-year-old Alexandria woman, remained on the scene, police said.

Neither speed nor alcohol appears to be a factor in this crash, police said.
