Man dies in Springfield area crash

A 24-year-old Woodbridge man died Tuesday night when his Ford Explorer ran off the road in the Springfield area, struck a fire hydrant and rolled over, Fairfax County police said.

Paul Wickwire was driving a 1998 Ford Explorer east on Leesville Boulevard near Hinton Street about 11:45 p.m. when he apparently lost control and ran off the road, police said. They said Wickwire was ejected from the Ford and died at the scene.

A preliminary investigation shows speed may have contributed to the crash, police said.

Anyone with information on the accident is asked to contact Crime Solvers by phone at 1-866-411-TIPS/8477, email at or text “TIP187” plus a message to CRIMES/274637, or call Fairfax County police at 703-691-2131.
