A man was killed in Gaithersburg overnight, police said Monday. Investigators believe the crime was not random, but police released no information on a possible association between the man and the suspects.

No one is in custody, a Montgomery County police spokeswoman said.

The victim’s body was discovered just after midnight at an apartment complex on Whetstone Drive. Police said Cesar Smith, 45, of Gaithersburg, was in the apartment with at least one other man when several individuals entered and separated them.

The suspects left after they were heard arguing with Smith, police said.

Police did not release more specific information about where Smith lived.
