Man fatally shot in Prince George’s

A man was shot to death in the Capitol Heights area of Prince George’s County Monday afternoon, authorities said.

The incident occurred just before 5:30 pm in the 4700 block of Leroy Gorham Road. Cpl. Mike Rodriguez, a Prince George’s County police spokesman, said a man was shot to death in the middle of the street.

The scene is a community of modest single-family homes off Brightseat Road. Neighbors and witnesses said the victim was a middle-aged man known to walk his dog and cut grass in the area.

One neighbor, who declined to be identified, said he heard what sounded like someone yelling for help and came outside to see the victim scuffling with another man over a gun. The neighbor said he went inside to call 911, then heard a gunshot.

Another neighbor, who also declined to be identified, said the man had been calmly cutting grass alone just minutes earlier.

“He’s nice. Everybody loved him. That’s why I’m trying to figure out what the heck happened,” the neighbor said. “It’s crazy.”

Rodriguez said police were still seeking info on suspects and a motive.
