The man shot by officers after a confrontation with police in Silver Spring early Monday morning has died.

A Montgomery County police spokesperson confirmed that the man, whose identity has not yet been released, died from his injuries at a local hospital.

According to police, the man called 911 around 3:15 a.m., threatening to hurt himself and possibly others. Officers responded to the home of the man’s girlfriend, in the area of Woodland Drive and Flora Lane.

The man was on the back stairs outside the home, and he had a gun, police said.

Police said officers removed the man’s girlfriend and several children from the home. The officers and the armed man had a confrontation, and the man was shot around 5 a.m, police said.

The man was taken to the hospital, where he died of his injuries later Monday morning.
