Man found on Northeast street was slain

A man described to authorities last week as possibly intoxicated was actually killed in a homicide, D.C. police said.

The victim was identified by police Saturday night as Darryl Eugene Sweet, Sr., 61, of Southeast Washington.

Rescue workers were sent to the 3800 block of Minnesota Avenue NE on Thursday night around 10 p.m. after someone reported a possible case of intoxication, police said.

Police spokeswoman Gwendolyn Crump said fire and emergency medical services personnel found a man who was unconscious and unresponsive.

He was taken to a hospital and homicide detectives went there to investigate. Police said it was determined that the man was suffering from an internal head wound. He was pronounced dead Friday.

An autopsy determined that the death was caused by a blunt force injury, police said. .
