A man is in police custody after a barricade situation in downtown Laurel Wednesday night, WTOP reports.

Police were called to an apartment building in the 600 block of Main Street shortly after 8 p.m., based on reports that a man had locked himself inside and was threatening to hurt himself.

As officers talked to the man and tried to get him out of the building, people in nearby businesses were evacuated from the immediate area.

The man, who had not taken any hostages, eventually came out of the building and was taken into custody.

No one was injured in the incident, but a portion of Main Street was briefly closed to traffic.

Police did not say why the man was upset .
