A Glenn Dale man was burned during a fire in his home Thursday night.

According to Prince George’s County fire officials, the blaze broke out shortly before 7:30 p.m. in the single-family home in the 7800 block of Northern Avenue.

When they arrived, firefighters found heavy fire throughout the house and fought the flames from outside, due to safety concerns.

It took nearly 60 firefighters about one hour to knock down the bulk of the fire, officials said.

One resident, a man in his 50s, suffered burns to his upper body and was transported to an area burn unit. Fire officials said his injuries were not life-threatening.

Fire loss estimates are still being calculated, but fire officials described the home and its contents as “a total loss.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
