Man killed in Greenbelt hit-and-run crash

A man was fatally struck by a car Wednesday evening in a hit-and-run on Hanover Parkway in Greenbelt, authorities said.

The man, who police did not immediately identify, was walking across the southbound lanes of Hanover Parkway near Ora Glen Drive — headed toward a U.S. post office — when he was struck by a Mercedes Benz, authorities said. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead hours later, authorities said.

The vehicle left the scene after the crash, though police have since recovered it and identified its driver, said Officer Kelly Lawson, a Greenbelt police spokeswoman. Lawson said investigators are working with the Prince George’s County state’s attorney’s office to determine whether charges are warranted.

The crash occurred about 6:30 p.m.
