Man robbed, raped two women in hotel room, police say

A Woodbridge man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly raping and robbing two women at gunpoint that he had arranged to meet through an online service, Fairfax County police said.

Joshua T. Franklin, 24, of Alabama Avenue, was apprehended at an Extended Stay Motel in Springfield where he met the women, ages 18 and 25, police said.

Officers responded to the motel at about 6 p.m. on Tuesday for a report of a man with a gun, police said. Officers tracked down the suspect and arrested him as he tried to elude them.

Franklin allegedly arranged the meeting with the women via an unnamed online service, produced a gun and then allegedly sexually assaulted them, police said.

Police are investigating whether Franklin is linked to similar incidents in other areas. Franklin has been charged with two counts of forcible rape and two counts of armed robbery.

Police did not immediately return a call seeking additional details about the case.
