Man sexually assaulted 7-year-old in thrift store, police say

Police are looking for a man who they say sexaully assaulted a 7-year-old girl shopping at a thrift store in Silver Spring with her mother on Monday.

Around 7 p.m., a man came up to the girl browsing the Unique Thrift Store on Veirs Mill Road and touched her genital area through her clothing, police said.

The man followed her to a different section of the store and touched her again, according to police. She then hid in a rack of clothing until the man left, police said.

Police released a photo of a suspect in a sexual assault case.

“Whether it was random or opportunity, we don’t know right now,” said Officer Janelle Smith, spokeswoman for the Montgomery County police.

Smith said there may be other victims who have not come forward, and the investigation is ongoing.

Police are asking anyone with information to call authorities at 240-773-5400.
